GEORGE HERRERA LAUNCHES STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS FIRM
Washington, DC/New York – George Herrera, former President and Chief Executive Officer of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) today announced the launch of his strategic media communications firm the Herrera-Cristina Group, Ltd.
A Hispanic-owned, multidisciplinary communications firm with offices in Washington, DC and New York City, Herrera-Cristina will specialize in strategic communications, marketing, corporate diversity development, public affairs and event planning for the public and private sectors.
Herrera is a nationally recognized expert in the fields of economic and minority business development and strategic planning. During his tenure as President/CEO of the USHCC, Herrera gained national attention for his strategic and innovative programs with the business and corporate community, private sector investment institutions, community-based entities and the federal government. He is the creator of “Hispanics Today,” the nationally syndicated television show now seen by over 30 million viewers weekly.
Prior to joining the USHCC, Herrera served as President of David J. Burgos & Associates, Inc., where for 17 years he led efforts that evolved the company into the largest Hispanic-owned management and financial consulting firm in the U.S. With 95 employees, Burgos successfully completed over 100 government contracts valued at over $60 million. The company included among its clients the U.S Department of Commerce, U.S Small Business Administration, U.S Department of Energy, Illinois Department of Transportation, City Colleges of Chicago, New York State Department of Transportation and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York.
In January 2004, Herrera was appointed to serve as an independent director on the Board of Directors of the Cendant Corporation, replacing the Honorable William S. Cohen, former Secretary of Defense. He was inducted as a Fellow at the Wharton Society of Fellows, Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania; appointed by Secretary of Labor, Elaine L. Chao to serve on the Secretary’s Committee on 21st Century Workforce, President’s Council on the 21st Century Workforce; and serves as Chair for the Advisory Committee of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Corporate America Task Force. Herrera has been on national television and radio including CNN, CNBC and National Public Radio, and has authored numerous articles. He has received many awards in recognition of his leadership and commitment to the business community including the Mickey Leland Humanitarian Achievement Award and the Cesar Chavez Community Service Award.
